Overview

For a low monthly premium, you’ll have access to a nationwide network of attorneys who can:

  • Work with you in person, over the phone or online to consult on legal issues.
  • Review or prepare personal documents.
  • Make follow-up calls or write letters on your behalf.
  • Represent you—even in court, if necessary.

Enrollment

Once you are enrolled, your coverage is effective for one year and you will remain enrolled for the remainder of the plan year, which ends on March 31 each year. You are not permitted to drop coverage during the plan year. You may only enroll during the annual enrollment window, which is expected to occur each February for an April 1 effective date. If you currently participate in the Legal Insurance Plan and want to continue the coverage for another year, you must re-enroll by the annual enrollment deadline. Otherwise, your coverage will end on March 31.

  • Who is the provider?

    ARAG® is a leading provider of legal insurance in the U.S., offering the most comprehensive legal insurance plan designed around a nationwide network of attorneys. Network attorney fees are 100% paid in full for most covered legal matters.
     

    The legal insurance plan provides affordable legal counsel for a variety of legal matters, such as a dispute with a contractor, buying or selling a home or creating a will.

  • How does this work?

    Call ARAG at 1-800-247-4184 and a Customer Care specialist will help you get connected with a network attorney in your local area. The attorney can:

    • Review or prepare personal documents.
    • Make follow-up calls or write letters on your behalf.
    • Advise and consult with you on legal issues.
    • Represent you—even in court, if necessary.

  • What can I expect after I am enrolled?

    Following your initial enrollment, you will receive a new member kit at your home address that will contain a unique member identification number and a link to the ARAG member portal to get you started. The kit will include a welcome letter, two identification cards, and a brochure/guide with information on how to register and set up your account.

     

    If you were previously an ARAG plan member who is re-enrolling, you will use the same member ID when you first enrolled, and do not need to create a new account. If you haven’t created an account:

     

    • Go to ARAGlegal.com/account. Choose Create Account.
    • Enter your member ID and ZIP. You will be asked to provide an email address for identity verification.
    • Create your password to complete the account setup and login.

     

    When you need to update your account information, simply log in at ARAGlegal.com/account and choose Account on the member portal to update your username, password, or account recovery email.

  • Who is covered?

    You, your legal spouse or domestic partner, and eligible dependents are covered.
  • What’s covered?

    The legal insurance plan, administered by ARAG offers unlimited telephone advice and in-office consultations regarding a wide range of personal legal issues and full representation for the following:

    • Wills and estate planning
    • Real estate and home ownership
    • Traffic tickets and license suspension
    • Landlord disputes
    • Family law matters
    • Divorce
    • Small claims court
    • Consumer fraud
    • Personal property disputes
    • Student loan debt
    • Bankruptcy

  • Are there any exclusions?

    The plan covers most personal legal services. The following matters are excluded from coverage:

    • Matters against ARAG, TJX and subsidiaries or an insured against the interests of the named insured under the same Certificate.
    • Legal services arising out of a business interest, investment interests, employment matters, Associate benefits, your role as an officer or director of an organization, and patents or copyrights.
    • Legal services in class actions, post judgments, punitive damages, malpractice, appeals, small claims court or equivalent court in your state.
    • Legal services deemed by ARAG to be frivolous or lacking merit, or in legal matters where you wish to take action against a party, regardless of whether the matter proceeds to you filing a lawsuit against the other party, and the amount we pay for your legal services exceeds the amount in dispute, or in our reasonable belief you are not actively and reasonably pursuing resolution in your case.


    Pre-existing matters: If you have already hired the services of an attorney, a legal action has been filed or any actual or alleged violations of either party's rights has occurred, you are not eligible for paid-in-full coverage. However, as a plan member, you are eligible to receive telephone legal advice for non-excluded matters from a network attorney as well as reduced fee benefits for in-office legal services of at least 25 percent off their normal rate.

  • Which attorney can I use?

    You have access to a network of more than 15,000 network attorneys across the U.S. who:

    • Operate independently, outside of a law firm.
    • Average more than 20 years of experience practicing law.
    • Can meet a wide range of legal needs.
    • Are re-credentialed annually to maintain ARAG’s standards.
    • Must fulfill specific criteria to maintain their status in the network.

     

    You also have the flexibility to use a non-network attorney and get reimbursed for covered services according to the indemnity benefits under your legal plan. If you have difficulty connecting with a network attorney, contact ARAG for help to receive full plan benefits on covered matters.

     

    To find local network attorneys, please contact ARAG Customer Care at 1-800-247-4184. You can also log in to ARAGlegal.com and access a database of network attorneys by area of law and location. If you have any difficulty locating a network attorney, please call ARAG Customer Care for assistance.

     

    Members can also download the ARAG Legal app as a convenient way to select and connect with network attorneys on the go.

  • How are payments handled with a non-network attorney?

    As a member, you have the choice to see a network or non-network attorney; however most members use a network attorney for their legal matter. If you choose to work with a non-network attorney, you will be billed directly by them. You will then be required to provide ARAG with appropriate documentation—including an ARAG non-network attorney claim form—to be reimbursed for covered legal services under your indemnity benefits. Reimbursement will then be made to you according to the indemnity amount, which is listed in your group policy. Contact ARAG Customer Care to request a non-network attorney claim form.
  • Can I use this plan for small business-related or employment-related legal matters?

    No. ARAG provides legal protection for personal legal matters and does not provide services for business-related legal matters or any matter involving your employer. Please see the plan certificate for specific exclusions and additional information.
  • What if my employment status changes?

    If members leave employment, they have the option of enrolling in an ARAG conversion plan that offers similar benefits and arrange to pay premiums to ARAG directly for coverage. Contact ARAG at 1-800-247-4184 for details.
